...........Presently residing in the "vacinity" of Americus, Missouri..........can't produce evidence of discharge....disease contracted-.....Bronchitis and lung "afliction" ....... age [68] Sixty eight past .... I am incapacitated to labor... works more than is able, has some children can't depend on them and holds no property in wife's name. Signed by Geo. N. Tate with and "X", his mark. Witnessed by W. H Garrett and Edna Garrett. Memorandum of service: Entred serice at Columbia, Missouri October 1864. Col. Commanding Regiment-Col. Ed Woods, Capt Paine and Lt. Bob Owsley- Class-Calvary. [Note-see John C. Tate below] Battles.. Glasgow, Ray County near Richmond, Hickory County, and ?? Hickory County, various skirmishes.

George N. Tate was not found on the rolls of Co. "I", 10th Missouri Infanty, CSA- but, George N. Tate, private Company "I", Missouri inf. CSA, appeared on a roll of prisoners of war surrended at New Orleans, LA May 25, 1865, paroled at Shreveport, La. on June 8, 1865. ie; Adj. Genral Office, Wash. D.C., 1913.

On this 5th day of July 1913, before personally appeared John C. Tate and under oath subscribes to the following;

I am an Ex-Confederate soldier and served not less than six months in the army of the Confederate States of america in the Civil War, and I received my parole papers from Gen. E. R. S. Canby about June 5th, 1865 at shreveport, Louisisana. Tat siad parole papers have been lost or destroyed and It is impossible for me to produce them.

I do solemnly swear.......I am a bono fide resident of Missouri for the two years preceedng April 23, 1913..... am at present residing at Steedman, Missouri.... not wounded......no disease.........on account of old age "69 yrs, 8 months, 12 days".... I am incapacitated to labor and have no business profession or property from which Iderive an income and no means sufficient for my support.... .."Never married, no children or close relatives who should support me. Have one one leg and am not able to do hard work" Signed John X C. Tate. Witnessed by B. Covington and J. W. Garrett , D. C. Gilman, Sr. Notary Public. Next paragraph is "We, the citizens of Portland, Callaway County, Missouri certify that we know the above John C. Tate to be a man of reliability, and that the declaration above as made by him to be correctly and truthfully stated. Signed by Covington and Garrett.

Memorandum Of Service:....Entered service near Williamsburg, Mo- state of Missouri- October 1864. Name of Col. Commanding Regiment Col. Bob Woods. Names of Captains and Lieutenants of Company- Captain Bob Paine and Lieut. Bob Owsley. Class of service: Calvary, transferred to Infantry, Co. "I', 10th Consolidated Mo. Infantry. Member of Confederate Society?? Answer "NO".

" Heading on Affidavit: Bank of Portland, Portland, MO. On this 5th day of July, 1913, before me personall appeared A. R. Windsor, who under oath subscribes to the following:- That I am an Ex-Confederate Soldier and that I received my parole papers about June 5th, 1865 from from Gen. E. R. S. Canby at Shreveport, Louisiana and know that John C. Tate received his parole papers at same time and place.

CSA, appeared on a roll of prisoners of war surrended at New Orleans, LA May 25, 1865, paroled at Camp Allen, La. on June 8, 1865. ie; Adj. Genral Office, Wash. D. c. 1913.
