CAPT. PATRICK EWING. A Short Sketch of His Life. Died at the residence of his son-in-law, LeGrand Ratekin, on the 25th day of July 1879, Captain Patrick Ewing, in the 87th year of his age. Captain Ewing was born in Lee county, Virginia, on the second day of December, 1792 and came to Missouri in 1814, and to Callaway county in 1816. He built the first house in Callaway county out side of Cote Sans Dessein early in 1817. He was a Captain in the Black Hawk war and the second sheriff of the county. The exact time when he became a mentor of the Regular Baptist Church is not known to this writer, but it was not far from the year 1840, and he ever afterward lived a consistent member of that body. By his first wife he had nine children; three sons and six daughters; two sons and three daughters survive him, all of whom were present when he died except one son, who resides in Texas. Perhaps no person was held in higher esteem by those who knew him than Captain Ewing. He was generous to a fault, and no one held ostentation of any kind in greater contempt. He of late years, often spoke of his departure as something he dreaded only on account of bodily , and expressed himself as being ready and willing to go whenever the Father should call him. He is the last of his father's family, except a sister who was still living at last accounts. M. Callaway Weekly Gazette, Fulton, Callaway County, Missouri, August 8, 1879.

Deeply do we sympathize with the grief-stricken husband and children in their sad bereavement. Yes, dear Aunt Ann, thou art absent from us, but not lost, only gone before to that sun-bright clime on the evergreen shore. She is waiting by the river; Just across the silvery stream,; Where flowers are ever blooming; And the banks are ever green; Where no shrill blasts of winter; Blight the rosy blossoms fair,; But where all is love and sunshine; She is waiting for us there. McClellan, Minnie
GONE FOREVER
Infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Marion McClelland of Steedman, Mo., died Dec. 2,
1910, aged 2 years, 1 month and 29 days. During the six weeks of little Minnie's
sickness physicians exhausted their skill, friends and relatives ever ready to
do what they could, went to the help of the child, but all efforts failed to
keep her with us. We believe that God in His wisdom saw best to pluck this
tender bud who was the sunshine of her home and transplant it in a fairer clime.
Funeral services were conducted by the writer at Riverview church after which
the remains were laid away in the burying ground near by. (Riverview Cemetery)
Newspaper clipping, source unknown
"Another little lamb is gone,
To dwell with Him who gave;
Another little darling babe,
Is sheltered in the grave.
God needed one more angel child,
Amidst His shining band;
And so he bent with loving smile,
And clasped little Harold's hand.
The little chair is empty now,
The little clothes laid by;
A mother's hope, a father's joy,
In death's cold arm doth lie.
God, little pilgrim to thy home
On yonder's blissful shore;
We miss thee here but soon will come,
Where thou has gone before."

Wright, William
MR. WM. WRIGHT, who died in Worcester, Audrain county, was born in Callaway county in 1842. At the age of 24 he married Miss Nellie Guy, with whom he lived very happily up to the time of his death. He had been a citizen of Audrain county for five years, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. Having been a good neighbor, and having a high appreciation of integrity and honor, his word was his bond in all business transactions and his death has sent a gloom of sorrow over the hearts of all who knew him, for at his death Audrain county lost one of her best citizens. I was at his bedside the day before he died. He was perfectly unconscious, and his death was expected at any moment. I noticed among his friends and relatives, who were gathered around his bedside, his aged mother holding the pale and emaciated hand of her boy, hoping against hope, while his faithful wife had gathered their little ones around the bedside--were weeping tears of anguish to see the loving husband and father in the grasp of the monster Death. At half-past nine o'clock Monday morning, Jan. 31st, he breathed his last. A happy family torn asunder by the awful hand of Death. It is but nature to weep for those who are called away by death, and particularly so when a man is taken away as Mr. Wright, in the prime of life in the midst of his usefulness, the loss, perhaps, is more....who have lived to extreme old age, but we know that death comes to all--the young may die, the old must die. And we can only hope that Mr. Wright and his bereaved family, although separated by death here, may form an unbroken family in that world where parting is not known. A Neighbor, Fulton Telegraph, Fulton, Callaway County, Missouri, February 9, 1875
