Betty Ruth Gaines Brooks, 79 of Mexico, died Monday, July 13, 2009. Betty was born Nov. 15, 1929 in Mexico to Lester and Ora Kettle Gaines. Private services will be held at a later date. On May 16, 1957 she and Church B. Brooks were married. Mr. Brooks survives at the home. Betty was involved in Genealogy for 50+ years. Having helped to rewrite and update the “Boone” family history, start the “Boone Reunion” of Montgomery County, Mo. in 1978, she found many missing links for others looking for their ancestors all over the world. She was the host of nine different county Web sites for others in search of information. She was a member of The National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, National Society Sons & Daughters of the Pilgrims, The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. She had in past years held several offices in the Missouri State Genealogy Society also. She was always willing and glad to help anyone find that missing link. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Church; sisters, Vivian Byrd and Gayle (Bill) Mattox; several nieces and nephews, and all that knew her. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edward E. Shay III.

Dear Listers,

It is with a very sad heart that I learn of Betty's death. I have had the privilege of working with Betty Brooks for almost nine years on the Callaway County Missouri Journal website, which eventually was moved to the MOGenWeb organization of websites about six years ago. I could not have found a better and more able teacher for the history and genealogy that we have worked on so diligently for so long. Betty's efforts were not simply limited to Callaway County; but were duplicated in Audrain, Montgomery, Saline, Warren and several other Missouri Counties as well as sites in Tennessee and a MOPOC site associated with MOGenWeb. Her efforts in history/genealogy will be long remembered when her name has faded into the past. I will say that it has been an honor and a privilege working with Betty who gave her all for a cause that she strongly believed in. She will be missed.

Sincerely yours,

Wayne Johnson

Hello! My name is e-mail Callaway County Coordinator .   I'm the new County Coordinator for the Callaway County, Missouri MoGenWeb page. The previous coordinator had some great links; however we have totally reorganized this site and brought with us a tremendous amount of history, genealogy, and Callaway County related information from our previous web site. We are starting off fresh and will attempt to retain as many of the old associations as possible and will try to enlist your aid in helping us to make this the web site that Callaway County can be proud of. As we progress in building this web site we have added a 'How Can I Help Link' on every major page, attempting to seek your guidance and participation in adding to the historical and genealogical information on Callaway County found on this web site. You can also click on the 'What's New' in the header at the top of all main pages to see 'what's new' on this website.

Our
primary emphasis on this website is centered around the history and genealogy of Callaway County, Missouri, 'Kingdom of Callaway', and all of our offerings will be focused on this end. We invite to to browse this site and we should explain to you that we have not fully 'moved in' yet so we anticipate adding many more records of importance over the next few months.

We have decided to add an additional section. 'Callaway Townships', which divide the county up by townships to better regionalize the information available on this website. In these pages dedicated to the various townships of Callaway County, we encourage you to send in any information regarding the history and genealogy of the of any important item, person, or town within the township and see it appear here. We welcome your submissions.

You will find links to the major pages in the navigation system at the top of the web pages and links to additional sub-pages in the sidebars on either side of the main pages. You will also find that we have added four new categories that we had not planned on when constructing the navigation system at the top of the page. Many of our features will be 'onsite'; however there are a sizeable number of links which will refer to to other websites. Please feel free to browse to the fullest. We have also recently added a search function using FreeFind. It may be found at the bottom of every main page just above our copyright, as well as the floating 'Search' link on the Home page.

Please refer to the 'History' page for additional temporary navigational links to any new topics that we have added that are not in the menuing header at the top of the main pages. If you did not find what you were looking for, please check back frequently or e-mail us about your informational needs. We are looking forward to expanding this website and value your input. We are looking forward to growing with Callaway County over the next few years.

Suggestions and additions are always welcomed. Contact information at bottom.
